well it's not even close to "alpha" quality, but here's a new WIP with 2 new things (and several borrowed 大笑)

1) off-canvas blocks region

2) YUI Pure CSS framework

so far #1 is functional (still needs some work) and #2 is wired up but needs some renderers to be written.

let me know what you think of the off-canvas approach to block-regions.

Hi Danny,

Thank you for sharing a new theme. I tried to install it in a local installation of Moodle 2.5.2, but I could not select your theme. I received the error message:

The website encountered an error while retrieving /moodle/theme/index.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Error code: 500

Then, I went to your site moodle.iyware.com/?theme=pure and played with the off-canvas approach to block-regions. I like your approach of expanding and collapsing blocks. I wish the menu or at least the button for the blocks would stick at the top so that I  could expand these blocks even when I am at the bottom of a page. I cannot comment on the YUI Pure CSS framework as I have no clue what it is.

Again, thanks for sharing and for investing your time in designing themes.

With kind regards,

Hartmut

Dear Danny and Hartmut,

Firstly thanks for sharing Danny, I did manage to get it working but could not get the off canvas blocks to work in Chrome.  But given the screen shots I think they are a good idea.  I started a debate about docking in this forum and some like off screen and some don't.  Personally if it was easy to get to like Ubuntu's standard dock then perhaps everybody would migrate and learn to love it.  Then we could have more space for course content and only have blocks showing when we needed the information contained within them.

I did think at one point that it would be cool for a one / two pixel area to the left / right of the screen that would float in the blocks with a semi-transparent background and they would be over the top of the content like a light box until you had finished with them by moving away.  I almost got this working in Shoelace without the floating bit but stumbled with shrinking and rotating the block names.  If you are interested there is a post that references the YUI code for it or I can dig it up for you.

Hartmut, I managed to get it working in 'master' i.e. the current pre-release M2.6 as the 'config.php' file seems to have a device detection class which looks new so I thought it must be master.  Also had to ensure the folder name was just 'pure'.

Cheers,

Gareth

Hi Danny,

Just testing this now in Moodle 2.6 Alpha...looks OK...however I was using 800 x 600 screen resolution prior to testing and found the black navbar is about 20px left/right too short so you see a gap.

The sideblock slider works great. Have you seen John Stabinger's Cover theme that has a nice CSS/JS transition effects on the dock that makes it quite smooth. You might want to check that out.

Where do you login, as the login page does not seem to work. Can't login or logout which is really scary! LOL

I'll let you know how I get on over the weekend if I get time to check it out more...but other than that it's a great project to be working on...thanks for sharing  微笑

Cheers

Mary

Thanks for trying it out,

  • I will check out "cover" theme
  • didn't know the login page wasn't working...
  • I'm not sure if that's a bootstrap issue or my page-layout, but I had noticed it, also what are you doing on 800x600? you must be at a public school 吐舌頭

No...not public school...home fixing Afterburner for 2.6 making it responsive. Was testing it at the time to see how it looks.

The login is your theme, as Bootstrap works OK. It does not seem to want to connect for some reason, although there is a layout set for login/logout.

Very strange...

Cheers
