Moodle logo

I'm looking for something just a little different to use in Staff news when I promote Moodle.  I'm trying to avoid the Mortar board hat option, nice as it is, it hints of teacher directed lecturing and formality.

Otherwise, I guess it is back to my very basic Photoshop skills.

Any ideas?

Very nice Derek. First logo is creative and colourful. Second is creative and silverish-Apple-logo-like. Your first logo makes me want to try out a Negative Space version of the word "Moodle". Simply because I can't find a negative space version of the logo anywhere. smile

Hi Derek,

I've attached the original Moodle font (SOULPAPA.TTF) if that's of any use to you.

Without the mortar board and early 90s Photoshop style embossed filter it'd look something like:

Moodle logo, flat, no mortar board

There's just a subtle drop shadow filter: displaced 2 pix at 315 degrees, 2 pix gaussian blur, at 40% transparency.

The orange fill is a radial gradient #FF8000 at the centre, #D96D00 at the outer edge but pulled out about 300 pix beyond the outer edge to get a less dramatic gradient.

The text is 110 point, with the kerning/tracking compressed to -32.

Interestingly, essentially this version of the logo was on stage at MootUS15.

I think your first logo is very nicely designed. Simple, stylish visually very engaging.

When I changed our logo I went a step further than loosing the mortar board and replaced the whole lot with a goldfish. Being more or less the same colour as "Moodle orange" and more or less the same dimensions it worked well.

I get asked a lot what the fish is meant to represent which is good because it means people sat up and noticed. I still haven't thought of a good answer though...it's just a fish, a fish that's orange tongueout

Sourcing good quality, free to use pictures of goldfish that can be easily cut out of their context is tricky.

The moo part of Moodle suggests a cow:

Moodle cow logo

Couldn't find the source of the cow graphic but it's probably copyright.

Hi Tammy.

I got the pic of Scooby from google images. I hold no rights to use the image and did not check for copyright issues before I did (cheeky I know) because I was only messing around.

You are more than welcome to use this in any way you see fit without crediting me (although feel free to) but you should be aware that, depending on where you are in the world, you may end up with a take down notice from any potential copyright owner.

If you would like a copy that is legit and has no potential copyright issues then pm me. I've no idea what Warner Bros would charge for a license (I only use copyright free images in my professional work) or even if they would but it'd be interesting to find out.

Cheers, Sam Thing.

I give presentations all over the state of Kansas on Moodle (and sometimes outside of Kansas) and my title is Moodle Your Noodle. What kind of graphics can we come up with for that!! mixed

"teacher directed lecturing" !

What?  Quite the opposite!  Do you know what it takes to get one of those Doctorate hats?  Years of willpower and self-directed learning and discovery.

Ha Ha!!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_dress

1974.  The labs and the lecture theatres in the brick building at the back of Otago university.  I never saw a person wearing one of these funny who didn't lecture bad.  I've probably been scarred for life.

I wished I could have video'd Wain yesterday at the scaffolding school at Manakau.  Remarkable tutor.

Here is a promo video of the building complete with enclosed spaces, heights, pipes and tubes.

Maybe I want a Moodle for our guys with a hard hat.  Or Willie's hat, 4.17 in the video.

Re: Moodle logo

what if you used the same font, color & style in the original logo - replacing the "o o" with your callouts and also made them orange?

I like drop shadows but the large horizontal shadow, I think, takes away from the logo you created.  Of course, this is my opinion, and as you know, everyone has one of those too smile

Moodle hip flask. This really is a thing

Wow, moodle is a dog:

maltese + poodle = moodle

Should MoodleHQ sue them for breach of copyright: Compensation = 1 Moodle? Isn't it time MoodleHQ had a mascot? ;)

Not that I'm aware of smile Or at least not a real cow. Forth Valley College (Scotland) made some cow 'stress balls' for their staff which they donated to tweeters including some HQ people - people then used the hashtag #mooodlecow to share photos of their cow in different places around the world - unofficial but fun.

Perhaps there could be a 'MoodleBorg' doll as a mascot?  Such as (credit to J Ridden, screen grab from iMoot 2013) ....

Martin D owns, or at least owned, a moodle dog at one point.

And, I am shocked that Mary got the hash-tag wrong. There should be 4 os. #moooodlecow.
