Leatherbound: non expandable category tree

Leatherbound: non expandable category tree

Hi there Moodlers.

I was looking at the /course/index.php (Moodle v. 2.5.0) page and noticed that in the Leatherbound theme the categories are non expandable.
I thought they were because they have the same looking arrows (pointers) as in the Navigation block next to it.
Are they supposed to be non expandable or is this just not implemented yet ? (are themes even being kept up to date?)
I am really not a fan of having to reload (follow a link) the page many times to get to my course.
Much easier to just expand a few times (and more user friendly!)

Any discussion/information/fix would be appreciated.

Best regards,
Halldór Örn

Yes Halldor themes are being kept upto date. In fact there is a LOT of work goes on in the background by people like Mary and others to make sure that core themes are kept as upto date as possible in line with the developments that happen in other new themes and other areas of moodle, such as adding in new functions, bug fixes and taking best practice from other new development areas and ensuring that is applied to the core themes.

I believe this is the expected behaviour as I get exactly the same thing in Standard theme (and several others I tested) as well. The category names are links to the category rather than being expandable on that page. This is not a Leatherbound issue specifically.

If you feel a different behaviour is prefered (I happen to agree in this case!) it would be worth raising a tracker issue and seeing if someone is able to provide an improvement or a reason why this behaviour was adopted. It seems to me it should be possible as what you are looking for appears to be the default behaviour for the combo list on the front-page.

Thanks for the fantastic reply Richard 微笑 exactly what i was looking for.

It seems my knowledge of tracker raising is not sufficient (in fact it is nowhere to be found), i tried making one but had no luck.. didn't even find the "make new tracker"-ish button 微笑

I don't suppose you could raise it for me/us because i believe this is a highly desirable behaviour ?

Halldór,

How categories are listed on the frontpage is determined by the way you want them to display. You can choose in Frontpage settings.

However, the names of the lists are misleading as the Combo list should really say Courses by category and NOT just Courses.

On the other hand, List of categories shows only the categories and give only the number of courses within these categories.

So if you want to list Categories together with courses within these categories, then you need to choose Combo list as a frontpage setting.

To change the title will need a Moodle Tracker setting up which I can do, and fix at the same time if you think this will server a better purpose?

Here is an image of what I see in my small test site for these two settings in the frontpage.

Cheers

Mary

Hi Mary,

I think that is exactly what Halldor is looking for - but he wants it on the courses/index.php page which at the moment just gives a category list which is clickable links rather than an expandable drop down.

I seem to remember a discussion about this somewhere previously, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere, so maybe it was internal at my uni.

I need a holiday! I think I am losing my power of concentration, I am fast losing the thread here. LOL

Will take a look at the course/index page and see what I find.

From the tracker that David posted (which I had actually forgotten about 伤心 )  looks like this is a known bug. I've just added Andew Nicols to that tracker so he should give us a lead as to how he/we can fix this problem...hopefully so at least!

Cheers
