Some uploaded assignments not appearing

I wonder if any other Moodle folks are running into this problem (I didn't see it in the bug list)...

Sometimes when students upload an assignment the file itself doesn't appear my (instructor's) list.  I know the upload was successful because (a) their user name is put on the top of the list of assignments and has the darker border indicating it was turned in (as opposed to the bottom list of folks who have yet to turn in an assignment) and (b) because when I log into their account it shows the file properly as being uploaded for the assignment.

As a workaround I've just been logging into a student's account whenever the assignment list doesn't display the paper/file that's been uploaded, but obviously this is a bit cumbersome.  This seems particularly likely to happen when a student has uploaded a file with the same name as an attachment in the forum

Any similar experiences/ideas?

It's obviously a bug, but I can't see what's causing it.

I've just made a change that should at least work around it (it no longer relies on the stored value numfiles when deciding whether to print the list of files on the teacher's page).

You can try it out in the latest nightly if you like - seems quite stable.

Ok.  I'll go ahead and install the nightly upgrade tonight.  (Fingers crossed on the stability front, as I've actually now got a total of three university classes and around seventy students now using the system.)

On a possibly related note, how does Moodle handle students trying to upload files with the same name as documents already present.  I mean, a good 5 or 6 folks will be likely to name their final exam "finalexam.doc" or whatnot. Moodle doesn't, for example, seem to stop folks when a student tries to upload a file with the same name as one that she has posted as an attachment in one of the forums.

Not a problem, all these files are stored in separate directories. You can browse these directories - look in the 'Files' section in the "moddata" directory.

I'd love to take a peek in those directories, but ftp reports a "550 3: Permission Denied" whenever I try to access any of the moddata directories "2", "3", "4" etc.--any directory other than the "users" directory in that folder.

p.s. Is the most recent nightly download pretty stable?  I was about to download the prior night's, but realized you might be in the midst of all sorts of wacky tinkering smiley.gif

I meant to use Moodle's "Files" tool (in the teacher's admin menu).

The current nightly is great ... moodle.com is running it, if that helps. I introduced one bug today that turned everyone into a guest user surprise but that was only for a couple of hours. smile

Night! sleepy
