We are running NanoGong version 4.1 on Moodle (version 1.9.11+)
and recently we have had a few complaints that the nanogong recorder
has "failed to initialize". This does not happen to everyone – only
some students.

We reinstalled Nanogong, version 4.2.3. and tested it on Moodle
version 2.2.6+, but with the same results.
I have just read discussion posted earlier on March 8 „Nanogong -
Moodle 2.4.1 "Failed to Initialize Recorder"”. I am not sure that the
problem is in the server, because we ran our two tested NanoGong on
the different servers.
Could the problem with NanoGong be with a certificate’s publisher
(unknown)? When I open page with nanogong recorder for the first
time, I get Security warnings: " Do you want to run this application?
Name: gong.NanoGong ... Risk: This application will run with
unrestricted access which may put you computer and personal
information at risk. Run this application only if you trust the
publisher." or " Java has discovered application components that
could indicate a security concern. Name:gong.NanoGong..."

However, enabling the program, did not solve the problem, NanoGong
still "failed to initialize" on some computers.

Have you checked the Java version on all computers? Does it meets the minimum required Java 2 Runtime Environment 1.4.2 or above

Yes, we tested the problem on the different computers and Java environmet was the fist test object in the list. In particular, I have just installed latest Java version on the one of my computers with "Failed to initialize Recorder" before writing this post.
