We are using quickmail in moodle version 2.3.1. Our site is LDAP. The quickmail functions works for accounts that are created based on acitive directory but all users created manually with an email address different that our bergen domain dont get emails. I have this type of message in the log

yes, you are trying to send a mail from a different domain than the one the host is on. in this case you are trying to send mail as if it was from verizon.net when the machine is actually in the bergen domain. if you look at the mail headers, you may see this kinda spelled out in SMTP ...
so, what happens is that the recipient's mail server [or some other machine] gets the mail and says, "this says it's from verizon.com but it's actually coming from bergen.com" [or whatever it is]. spammers do this kind of thing all the time [well until it became a well known expolit]. so they get rejected. i think this is what has been happening to your users.
unless you want to give all your users bergen.com [or whatever it is] accounts, then you are going to keep running into this problem.
blame the spammers!!!
