I would be really interested to know what other hosting companies have allowed a smooth installation of moodle... I am sure there are lots out there. I just happend to pick on that is awful! IMHO.

I have been using Atjeu for some time an have no complaints at all. Their support staff are amazingly helpful and very patient. They also reply very promptly 24 hours a day and have fixed any problems I have had very quickly (and I have had a few!).
