Cannot add new questions to quiz (moodle 2.2)

Hi 

We have a moodle 2.2 which we upgraded from a 1.9. We are still trying to get to grips with how everything works. We are trying to create a new quiz but having a few problems...

We started off just adding a few questions in the quiz to test it, had a look and then tried to go back and add some more questions but all we see is "attempt now" with no option to add more questions- the "edit" tab which we used to get in 1.9 is not there and we are stuck with a really short quiz- is this how it is now- we have to add all questions in one sitting? Are we missing something?

Look in the Settings block. There should be an Edit quiz link.

Hello Tim,

 

I'm attemting to add a second question to my quizz, click on edit quizz and it brings me back to the menu where I can choose a type of question, etc.

I choose Calculated multichoice, fill in each box and click on SAVE CHANGES.

But when taking the quizz again, it only shows the first question =/

I have attempted to select different types of questions, to see if this is specific to one type, but it happens regardless of the type of question.

If I understand your dilemna, my guess is that you need to delete your original question, clear your cache and then add the new question.  This is what I need to do if I edit a Word.doc assignment and keep the same name.

Oh, I see. Once the quizz has been attempted, you can't add new questions...but then, how do I test the quizz? Mmmm, I will keep investigating.

That all looks as it should. I don't know why it is not working. Some things to try:

  1. Turn on Debugging, if you can, to increase the chance you get an informative error message when something fails.
  2. Try creating a simpler question type that Calculated multi, to see if that works.

My knowledge of Moodle is zero, so I'm not sure how to turn on debbuging.

I didn't installed Moodle on my computer. I'm just completing an eLearning course about eLearning and, as part of the course, I can use Moodle.

Anyway, I followed your advise, I attempted to add a simpler question TRUE/FALSE type, and it works =) So, the issue is the type of question that I'm choosing. I find Multichoice questions hard to work.

Sorry, I had a typo in the Debugging link in my last post (now edited). The link is http://docs.moodle.org/24/en/Debugging, but you need to be adminstrator to enable that. However, turning that on, and getting an error message, is likely to be the quickest way to find out why some quesiton types are broken.

By the way, are you sure you don't just want to use the 'Multiple choice' question type, instead of 'Calculated multiple choice'?

thanks for your advise. I definitely don't know how to make a calculated multichoice question work. I have managed, so far, to add:

  • Calculated
  • Matching
  • Multiple choice
  • Numerical
  • Short Answer
  • True/False

type questions. As part of my assessment criteria, and because I want to learn as much as possible, I need to use different type of questions.

My quizz is looking better smile with 10 questions on it. 

 

I have also used Hot Potatoes, but you can't drag things using the IPAD, so I will probably stay away from using that type of quizz again.
