Problem with parents viewing grades

Problem with parents viewing grades

I've created a parent role as described in the documentation at http://docs.moodle.org/23/en/Parent_role and when I log in as a parent I see their children listed.

If I click on my own profile, I see an "Activities" block there with Forums, Glossaries, Resources listed. I figured out how to add that block when clicking on a student's profile. As I understand it, this is where the parents can find their child's grades, at least according to this thread: http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=203123

The documentation, on the other hand, says:

"If the capability moodle/user:viewuseractivitiesreport is set to allow then a parent/mentee may view their student's activity reports and grades via the student's Profile. On the main Profile page, there will be a list of courses. Clicking on a course title will select that course. Then, under the Activities tab, the various report and grades sub-tabs will display information relevant to the selected course."

There is an "Activity Report" section in the Navigation block on the student's profile page when logged in as the parent. Expanding this shows a link to "Grade" -- yes, singular. Selecting this appears to show a grade for the front page, which is empty.

If I select one of the courses listed in the student's profile the whole Navigation block disappears. So there is no Activity Report to open up and select grades. Is there some additional capability I should add to the parent role?

This is in Moodle 2.3.1, by the way. And I don't appear to be the only one having this problem:

Thanks!
