After a course has been created, certain documents need updating such as an Emplyee Handbook every so many weeks.
Can a Moodle course be setup to dedecte a modified document in a server area and display it without human event ?
The simple answer is yes.
If you are in a Moodle course, and you click on a File resource to download and display a file, it downloads the file you have told it to. So if someone comes along and re-uploads a new version of a file into Moodle, the person who reads the file sees the new file.
You question could be: can I put a file somewhre and point to it from Moodle (maybe even in several places) and if I update it, "will Moodle be updated" Yes in a sense this is possible with some sort of external reository (like sharepoint or alfresco etc) but it is not trivial.
And (rumour has it) we may get this in version 2.3.
