Moodle 2.2 and 2.3 Safari issue question

I'm not sure where to post this, so if someone can kindly tell me where to post it, I will do so.

We have thousands of teachers and students in our District using Moodle and this summer we're moving to Moodle 2.2 (or 2.3) from 1.9.7.  Here's the issue - almost all of them use Safari.  And Moodle 2.2/2.3 has a great new "drag and drop" feature where you can drag a file from your desktop into the browser window while in your "Manage my files" screen.  Works on Firefox, doesn't work on Safari.  Which is the default web browser for Macs.  Which thousands of our people use every day.

For literally years I waited for Moodle 2, to be able to stop using Firefox and start using Safari.  It's disheartening to see this extremely cool feature unavailable to our users.  Safari compatibility was one of our reasons to move to Moodle 2.

So, do I post this as a bug?  Has it already been discussed and Safari users are just "out of luck?"  Is it a known issue that's already being worked on?  I've tried searching for this issue but couldn't find it.  My searching skills are pretty lame, though.

I have the same problem... Is it so difficult to make a plugin also for Safari? Mac has the drag & drop feature for every program I use but non for Moodle... it's truly strange!

As the developer of the drag and drop upload code, I'm afraid I only have Linux and Windows PCs available to me for development (and I understand that Windows version of Safari is different enough that it isn't helpful in this case), so I can't directly test Mac + Safari support.

However, the javascript code uses the standard HTML 5 drag and drop API. This is fully supported by all recent versions of Firefox and Chrome. It is also supported by the preview versions of IE10. If the version of Safari you are using does not support this HTML 5 API, then it simply isn't possible to make it work in Moodle. My understanding is that the Safari developers are working on this, but this is a Safari issue, not a Moodle issue (I'm happy to be corrected, on this, if someone has got it working already).

The drag and drop support has been added to Safari 6.0 which will be released with Mountain Lion this month.

I'm running a developer preview of safari 6 and it 'just works' with moodle now. smile
