Penalty for incorrect try

Penalty for incorrect try

When I make multiple choice questions, the "Penalty for Incorrect Try" box is red. However, I am not creating adaptive questions, I am only using deferred feedback.

So my question is: Why is this a REQUIRED (red) field when I am not making an adaptive question? Furthermore, why is the default 33.33%. It seems that unless I am making an adaptive question, this field should be grayed out. Or, is this penalty applying to my quesitons anyway, even if they are not adaptive?

The piont is that in Moodle, you can take a question from the question bank, and add it to a quiz set to any behaviour. Therefore, when editing a question, you have to provide all information that might be needed.

However, since this is a selecte menu, there will always be a value selected, so you don't actually have to change this setting. You can just ignore it.

Joseph,

Version 2.2.2

Tim,

I see your point. That makes sense, but I still think it would be better to not require it and only  if it is an adaptive question should it be required. I am not a programmer, and perhaps it was too difficult to make it context sensitive.

Thank you both. My main question was whether there would be any effect if my questions are NOT adaptive. Apparently not, right?

Correct. If you are not using Adaptive, aAdaptive (no penalites) or Interactive with multiple tries, this setting is ignored, so don't worry about it.
