Problem: The service is unavailable

Problem: The service is unavailable

I just installed an update to Moodle from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 on a Windows 7 server. All things seem well with one exception.  In two particular courses (and could be in more), some upload activities when clicked on by students, or clicked on by teachers to edit, leads to a blank, white window with the message "The service is unavailable."  It's not happening to all upload activities in these courses.  I do know that these upload activities have had some large uploads from students, but I also know that these files were available to view and even download together as zipped folders as recently as minutes before the 2.2.2 update was installed.  I can still create new upload activities in these courses and they do work.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for solutions as the student work already submitted is now inaccessible.

I'm still struggling sort this one out.

It's only a problem on two of my courses (that I know of).  It's only impacting the advanced upload links, not single file uploads.

I've tried restoring the courses with and without student work, and the problem travels with it into the restored course.  I've tried the refresh option to clear out a course.  I've tried starting from scratch, importing non-upload activities only from the previous courses and then creating the upload links new - still getting "The service is unavailable" message.

Still looking for some clues.  Any help out there?

Tim

I have exactly the same issue and clueless on how to go about solving this issue. Did you manage to sort it?

Yes - solved by our handy IT consultant.

It was a bug in the Moodle code that was logged here:

http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-32207

The error was a database read error caused by incompatible variable types.  Apparently the code was tested on MySQL and worked but didn't work on a SQL Server which is what we use.

Our consultant applied his own patch to the code, but I believe Moodle 2.2.3 includes the fix.

many have made mention of permissions on the PHP folder, allowed users not added, and something about permissions/users and an app pool?  (Windows so strange to me ... Linux is my perference).
