When I try to restore a backup-file from a Moodle 1.2.1 server to our 1.4.3 server I get the following error:

Uhm,
until Moodle 1.4.3 we have detected a lot of problems using the internal zip/unzip libraries. This includes all sort of compatibility problems with other zip utilities and with newer versions of the same internal libraries.
So I think that, if possible, you should use external libraries instead (in 1.2 only available under unix systems) to make your backups.
They should work without problem (restore) in 1.4.3.
