Hmm, Joseph, I'm afraid I'm no expert in teaching natural languages. You could see better whether this feature is useful for you or not. I happily include such examples if you write them.
You could use it to include in feedback message any matched part of the student's answer (that could contain alternatives, quantifiers - so you coudn't type it exactly). How this is used in teaching context for natural language I don't know.
I used it in programming language in question where student could use any variable in statement to include this variable in the message exactly how student typed it.
