How can I have a list of courses with descriptions (including pictures) instead of simple list on the front page?

Hi Greg, we meet again big grin

Do you mean something like this?

  1. Don't create course categories, use the "Miscellaneous" category to hold all of your courses
  2. Select "show a list of courses" as your front page format
  3. Don't exceed the COURSE_MAX_SUMMARIES_PER_PAGE (defined in course/lib.php) value. If you do exceed it, just increase the value.

I would like to do this but when I try to move one of my courses I get

An error occurred - course not moved!

I can move it to other categories.

Hmmm. Any ideas?

Hmmm, don't know thoughtful

Maybe try with debugging on - this should display more error reports, hopefully letting you nail down the reasons.

I tried that but the message is still the same - no more information. I am on a hosted account so I don't think I will have access to the apache logs - at least I can't find them ;-(

This was a passing bug sometime in 1.4.3+ ... try upgrading to a later version.

I'll have to live with it then as I am just about to go live with my courses after pilot testing.

If that's the case, shuffle the categories around a bit and try again. At any rate, I'd recommend you move to a newer 1.4.3+

As I see you we are in the same boat or rather you are in the boat that I want to get in.

Of course i found the idea of the description of courses on the frontpage on your websites but I didn't dare to ask you directly.

The field of e-learning appealed to me so much that I chose the subject of my Masters Thesis "psychology of e-learning".

I am glad that you answered my question. I hope we will stay in touch and thank you for your nice sense of humor

Thank you very much. I would like to contribute to this community by publishing my thesis. Unfortunately it will primarily be in Polis much as I would like it to be it in English. Maybe I will manage to write it in both languages. Then I would be glad to discuss with you the means of making it available

I get them from http://istockphoto.com/ - it's probably the cheapest royalty-free stock photo site around, just $1 (until recently it was 0.5$) per low-res image (enough for web sites or PowerPoint presentations). http://photos.com or http://hemera.com might turn out cheaper if you need a lot of images.

To create your own theme, make a copy of one of the folders in  the /theme folder and modify the config.php and styles.php files inside.
