Hello All!
Does anyone know of any online tutorial about using mathematical notations in Word and in OpenOffice?
I need to use the term "mean" by representing it as a letter with a slash (-) over it. I could not figure out how to do it in either software. Like the mean of "X". (I rarely do stuff like this.)
Do I need a special font to do this? If so, where could I download it from?

IIRC, we called this "x bar" or "bar x" when I was in school.

- Insert ->Object->Microsoft Equation
- A text input
- In the box that appears, type your X (mm nice, it goes into a cursive italic script just like it ought to).
- Symbols are grouped, and the one you want is in the "Embellishments" section (just hover over it to see the name). Click on the group and pick the right one from the list.
- Click somewhere outside the box. Job done.

What you want is "bar x". For a reference I've attached a guide on math objects in OOo. This is more like TeX rather than MSWord-like.
