Can moodle time the amount of time a student spends viewing a course? And, can moodle display the time to the student?

This question gets asked a lot but doesn't (usually) make sense.

How do you propose to tell if the student is "viewing" the course or has brought up a page and then walked away to make a cup of tea (while the timer is still ticking presumably)? There are much better ways to test the students engagement.

Thanks for your reply.

But, the time the student spends with the course material on the computer is a requirement for this course.

With best regards, Mauilynn

What we like to call a "box ticking exercise" I suppose. Always depressing triste

Then you should employ a member of staff to sit beside them with a stopwatch and prod them with a stick every time they look away or give the impression they might be day dreaming.

Seriously, your best bet is to make some sort of analysis from the logs. You can get an idea just by looking through. I'm not aware anybody has written a specific report for this - I can see it being tricky.

Other people have been faced by the same box-ticking exercise, so there are some solutions around if you search the forums carefully enough. Sorry I can't be more specific.
