Blogs: Teacher wants blog entries only visible to group

This might be a dumb question, but I really can't figure out the answer! any help would be appreciated དགའ་འཛུམ་

Our teachers teach various classes - so, one teacher does IT, PE and Chemistry. When she writes blog posts, she wants to make the IT related blog posts visible to the IT students only, the PE blog posts visible to PE students, etc.

I've seen a couple of threads talking about "associate course", but I can't see how to use it - I haven't seen any buttons in Moodle that let you link a blog post or anything like that. I also don't see any way of using tags to block students from viewing a blog. I assumed we could do it with groups, but I don't have any option to publish a blog visible to a group, either.

I'm not in the IT team, so if there are any settings that need administrator rights to be altered I need to know exactly what those are so I can ask the IT guys to change it. Our Moodle install is very new and hasn't really been used yet - most of our server settings seem to be default or pretty restricted.

Thanks for your help

Ok -what version of Moodle are you using? (although to be honest I don't think you can do this in either version of Moodle)

Hi Mary, thanks for the quick response. We're using Moodle 2.

If it can't be done, is there something else we can do that will have a similar result? I've noticed that there's a blog style forum option, but I've not used it yet.

OK well in Moodle 2.0 once you make a blog post you can associate it with a particular course - you need to have the blogs menu block enabled in your course and when users in the course click to add an entry they have the option of attaching it to that particular course- they will get a tick box at the end of their blog to do so. Via the block you can then see blog entries just for that course. BUT - this doesn's stop people seeing the entries site wide; it is just a filter for that course. The blog style forum just displays forum entries in blog style; it's not a substitute blog. (Sorry to be so unhelpful)

That's not unhelpful! That's really helpful དགའ་འཛུམ་ It's just differently helpful to the answer I wanted. I've spent a few hours trawling forums, docs and FAQs and they all talk about things that are or may be possible. I had to ask so someone could tell me that it just isn't doable, yet. And I didn't know about the blogs menu block, so I'll hunt that down དགའ་འཛུམ་ Thanks
