Homework for the summer

Hi everyone.

I'm a secondary teacher in an school of Madrid. As well as I'm the TIC coordinator from my school.

For this summer my principal told me to learn about Moodle to make a Moodle site for the school. In the first quarter I'll have to teach the other teachers how to use Moodle, so I don't have too much time. I'll be very grateful of your help.

Thanks a lot

Gonzalo

Hi Gonzalo

Welcome to the world of Moodle!
Open University uses it as an online learning environment, so why shouldn't we too?

To get a feel of Moodle, feel free to roam around my Moodle site:
http://scm.moodleace.com
Username: student
Password: moodle

My ongoing courses are at:
http://scm.moodleace.com/course/view.php?id=19 (Intensive English)
http://scm.moodleace.com/course/view.php?id=9 (Information Technology)
http://scm.moodleace.com/course/view.php?id=8 (Desktop Publishing)

If you have a music teacher in your school, you can show her/him this compilation that I did on my Moodle site. A tribute to the late, great, Victor Borge:

Hi Gonzalo,

For http://scm.moodleace.com, I've created a user ID and password for you. I've already emailed it to your gmail account.

What next after looking through the various courses on MoodleAce.com?
I suppose you could also sign up for a free Moodle account from one of the many free hosting providers mentioned in this post:
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=146897

The other option is to sign up for a low-cost shared hosting plan where you can install Moodle on your own using either Fantastico or CPanel. Downside is that you may have to buy your own domain name (e.g, www.gonzaloreina.com) and spend some money for the hosting. Maybe your school can sponser the hosting (you have to talk to your Principal). The good news is that way you can have your own Moodle site as a test and learning site. You can install your own third-party activities to extend the functionality of the standard

Moodle. However, you may find the shared hosting option slow due to Moodle being quite resource hungry and that shared hosting is not the way to go for a medium Moodle class size.

All the BEST in your Moodle quest and adventure.

Hi Frankie,

thanks a lot for your replies. I think that this summer I will try with a free hosting provider, I'll create a course with a virtual student and in september I'll show my Principal the result of my beggining with moodle.

I have to learn too much about all of these

Thanks again. Best regards

Gonzalo

Bassam The LMS design is very nice. Like the colours.
However, there is no green link "Tutorial" - only "Training". Clicking on that link invokes a login screen.....
