Hello,

Has someone upgraded a 1.9 moodle to 2.1 with courses using HotPot?

Is this module already running smoothly in 2.1. Is is safe to upgrade?

Tks,
ED

Hi Emanuel,
as far as I know the HotPot module for Moodle 2.x works pretty well in Moodle 2.1.

If you are upgrading from Moodle 1.9 to 2.x, then I recommend you take a full back up of the database and file directories in their 1.9 state, and then try the upgrade on a test server. Expected the unexpected, and see how far you get. If you have only standard plugins you should be OK.

Hi Gordon,

My host will be installing Moodle 2.X for me shortly.  Which version of Moodle shall I recommend to install?   2.0 or 2.1?

Also, has the Taskchain module been written?  Please advise.  I have not followed the conversation about Quizport nor about Taskchain over the past 18 months.  Can you direct me to some information on these features?

I am currently successfully running Moodle 1.9.11.

I am interested in the new features of Quizport or Taskchain, and of course the Hotpot activities.  As I understand from reading I've done in these forums, the rewritten Hotpot module will offer some of the Michael Rottmeier variations for Hotpot design.  These variations are wonderful, and I am looking forward to using them.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Hi Chick,

I recommend the latest stable version of Moodle - currently Moodle 2.1

A public realease of TaskChain is not yet available. Basically it has the same features as QuizPort, except that it works in Moodle 2.x

The HotPot (Moodle 1.x and 2.x), QuizPort and TaskChain modules can all handle the Rottmeier output formats, so you can have fun experimenting with those smile

Gordon,

I have been looking at Quizport on your server.  I would like to obtain the source files that allow me to create the Michael Rottmeier Hotpot variations.  Formerly, they were available from his website.  http://www.teaching-tools.de.vu/

Now they are no longer available for immediate download.  His site says that he will send them upon email request.  I sent a request weeks ago with no return response.

Am I out of luck?  Any ideas?

Hi Chick,
you can do what you want to do more easily if you let QuizPort handle the source files.

All you need to do is ...

  1. create JCloze
  2. upload it to Moodle
  3. add it as part of a QuizPort activity
  4. set the "Output format" for the quiz to whichever Rottmeier format you require:
    • DropDown
    • FindIt(a)
    • FindIt(b)
    • JGloss

You can do something similar for JMatch, for which QuizPort allows the JMemori output format.

cheers
Gordon

Gordon,

Thanks for this help.  I also received assistance from a Moodler who forwarded the Rottmeier source files to me a little while ago.

I'll look again at the Quizport 'Output format'.  I see the 'Output format' choice window, but I don't see the various options.  There is a lot I need to play with to understand Quizport.

I will look at your Dec 2008 video.

It would be great if I don't need to prepare the files as outlined in the Rottmeier documentation files.

Chick

PS.  Wish I could attend the Paris Mini-moot.  The content looks great.  Have fun!
