Embedding .mp4 into courses page.

Embedding .mp4 into courses page.

Hi,

I currently have several webinar videos uploaded onto our training site, and I was asked by my boss if there was any way to embed the videos so that students couldn't download them.

I've had a look around here and on google but the best result I have been able to get is a quicktime player with controller which is, to say the least.. rather crap.

I would like a much more sophisticated look, such as youtube's video controller, including the ability to make it full screen. The videos I am uploading are almost always over 70MB as they are 1.5 hours to 2 hours long. I don't know if it's relevant but when I scroll the page the video box lags behind.

Is what I am asking realistic?

Any responses are much appreciated.

Hello Gordon,

Not sure what version you're using, but if you're on Moodle 1.9.6 or later the builtin multimedia filter suppoorts mp4 files

You can find more info about the Multimedia filter here:

http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/Multimedia_plugins

And can access it through the administration menu.

Please let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions.

Hi Chris,

My version of moodle is 1.9.12. I have no problem having my videos uploaded and displayed in .mp4, but rather that the default player seems to be Quicktime. Is there any way of changing this? Preferably something that has the option for full screen too, such as Windows Media Player.

It also seems that the videos don't stream, they load as one large chunk and then play. Anyway to change this?

Cheers.

I am curious to know if you removed quicktime from the computer if a different player would load in the browser?

Have you tried from a computer without quicktime installed and is the result the same.

Have you thought about uploading them to youtube or vimeo as private videos and then just embedding them in the course?

Did you figure out or get the assistance needed to install the plug in?

Hope this helps.

Chris

Avoiding video downloading is quite a futile task.

For the best look, try the Media Player activity plugin:

I've gone ahead and downloaded your suggested file but I'm not sure how to install it despite reading the instructions.

  1. Unzip the package and upload its contents to MOODLE/mod/mplayer
  2. Check that your mplayer directory isn't "double skinned", i.e. MOODLE/mod/mplayer/mplayer

I don't know where moodle/mod/mplayer is located.. Forgive my ignorance. -_-

Don't even say that... we are all learning 微笑

First, you need to have FTP access to your server (or access to your server control panel) in order to upload it. If you don't, then you should ask your system administrator to do this.

Once logged in, in your public folder you should find a "moodle" (that's the default name) directory, there you should find the "mod" folder.

Cheers!

Hi, Sorry for the rather delayed response.

I do have FTP access but according to my boss we don't have FTP access to moddle.

I'm rather confused about where to go from here. ><

Then you need to check this with your server admins. They should upload the plugin into the required directory.
