Keeping Versions? Advanced Uploading

Keeping Versions? Advanced Uploading

I know a single upload submission overwrites the original if reubmitting is allowed.

Can you using Advanced Uploading enable the tutor to mark work and send back to student for further work and ensure that the students original file (version) is kept if resubmitting is enabled. The student can then send back their updated - hopefully better work to reach the standard required.

I have not used advanced uploading for a while and wondered if anyone could help without me having to setup and test out.

Thanks

Kathy

I have been trying to find out exactly the same and have used Advanced Uploading but once teachers reverted the student's files back to draft (in order to allow resubmitting), students had to delete the original work in order to upload a new version (in any case, they had access to delete/change the originals). Once teachers re-graded the second attempt, the original grade was lost and replaced with the new one.

If oneyone knows a way how to keep the original files and grades on the system, please let us know! Surely it must be possible to keep logs of students' failed attempts!?

Thanks

Katerina

Hi,

Advanced uploading allows up to 20 files to be submitted by students. >Update assignment > Advanced uploading >

Enable Send for marking

The trick to not overwriting is to alter the file name. So, bensfile.doc becomes bensfile2.doc, bensfile3.doc, etc. Smartest is to have the teacher alter the file name when uploading it back to the student. That way, when resubmitted it won't overwrite the previous upload.

We don't use Enable Send for marking, and our students have no trouble uploading up to 3 files (our limit).

I believe you are correct about the grade. You only get one grade per Assignment. You could track the lost grade by inserting it in the comment box. This lets the teacher sum up the revision process with a "Look how your grade has improved from the start!"
