Alex and I have been struggling with this issue for a while now. Two issues play:
- Some of our teachers (we call them course managers with a new role set up from scratch), accidentally assign their contributing experts or co-teachers as students. When they find out that they made a mistake, the expert/teacher is assigned the appropriate role where sometimes the student role remains assigned to the same person. We found out that persons having these two roles assigned get very limited access rights to the the course.
- We use Moodle courses as platforms for communities (with different roles, such as moderators) and online learing modules (again, with different roles, such as content developer, non-editing teacher, students). It is likely that content developers also use the modules for their teaching, though this is not necessarily the case. FOr the exceptional cases that content developers use the module for teaching, we'd rather assign them to the module with two roles instead of creating a new role.
