I am having trouble uploading a flv video into my course. I am not very knowledgable about video files. I keep getting an error when I try to upload my video into the course. The error says, "File not specified", please help.
Could you go through the exact steps you take when trying to upload this flv file -and what version of Moodle are you using? (you can see the exact version by looking in site admininstration>notifications)
I am using Moodle version 2.0.2 These are the steps I have taken to try to upload the flv file:
I open the course I am working with, I then in the Topic Outline press on the icon that looks like a hand holding a pencil, a window called "Summary of General" opens and I press on the video icon, another window opens named "Insert/Edit Embedded Media", I then press on the line that states "Find or upload a sound, video, or applet...", the "File Picker" window opens, I browse find my flv file and choose it. I then press the Upload this File button and a window opens that says, "Error- File Not Specified"
I don't know if this is the correct procedure to upload a flv file, but it is the only way I know and I have had no success at it. I have tried this process a few times and have concluded that I am doing something wrong. I have never worked with video before on Moodle or any computer based progroam. This is my first attempt working with video ever and am not having much success.
Which browser are you using? I know there have been issues with IE9 - have you tried in Firefox?
I am using IE 9. I don't have firefox and not familiar with it. I'll look it up on the net. How does the web browser effect the uploading of a file for Moodle? Just wondering.
It's just that I have noticed that some people using IE9 have had the "file not specified " error with Moodle and when they have switched to compatability mode or else used Firefox they have been able to upload successfully.
The version 4 came out recently and already downloaded over 70 million times!! http://glow.mozilla.org/
Sorry, that it took me so long to reply back, out of town. I downloaded Firefox and it is letting me begin to download the flv and not get the "File not Specified" error, but the flv is to large. I know I read in one of the forums that there is a way to download larger files or maybe there is way way for me to reduce the flv file size. Have to figure it out. Thanks for the Firefox recommendation to you both, now I just need to figure out the other problem.
I am using Moodle version 2.0.3.
If you re-export your file as a .wmv or .mov file you can link directly to this file.
Users can download the .mwv or .mov or view the video (if you embed it). Check your display settings.
Steps: 1. Add a resource..file 2. Content..Add file 3. Upload file 4. Options: display
Now, if you wish to embed a file that is too large to upload you may want to hard code it within a content page (warning: a little time consuming):
1. Upload your .flv file to a folder you created on your server
2. Create a swf file for each .flv
3. Link your videos to the swf file on a content page.
While we are on this topic, using 2.0.3 (with the various improvements to media handling) what are people doing to quickly upoad media?
Does anyone use Add a resource > File?
What formats work best? (ie give a nice size on the screen, scrubber, proper navigation back etc)
I posted a month ago in the developers forum (http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=175164) but they are probably too busy developing 2.1
I am even unclear if filters work in the file resource. (Do they?)
I'm not really interested in anything that uses geek talk and a complex workflow. People I work with have some $$ to buy hardware. Ideally I'm looking for a workflow that is as simple as this "Use your phone/camera, insert the card into the computer/card reader and upload the video like this" Ideally without having to manuall choose lots of settings.
(Am I in la la land?)
