backup and restore - partial success

backup and restore - partial success

Well, I could have written "partial failure", but let's look on the bright side.
I'm trying to move a course from one moodle instance to a different one, on a different server
I can backup a course and get hold of the zip file, upload it to the other moodle instance, restore it, and ... the page is "done" although clearly the script doesn't complete, and the quizzes are not "restored" (although there is the suggestion that it tried to do that...).
I can do the backup without the quizzes and the restore all goes fine.
The files aren't particularly large (80kB max) and I've increased the timeout settings in backup.php and restore.php, but to no avail.
Any ideas?
We've got to crack this one, as we're runnning 12+ moodle instances and would like to tell the world about it.

Hi Lena,

since Moodle 1.2 tons of things have changed (improvements, new modules, blocks and filters, security patches...) so my first recommendation is to upgrade to 1.4.3 as soon as possible. You will notice the difference, sure!

Anyway, if you want, you can send me (privately) your "partial success" 眨眼 course backup to see if there is something wrong with its structure and if I'm able to restore it with my 1.4 test servers.

But upgrading to 1.4.3 will solve a lot of problems, sure! It's really easy to do (as long as you follow the steps documented in http://moodle.org/doc/?file=upgrade.html).

Ciao 微笑

Hi Eloy thanks for getting on the case,
I have upgraded to 1.4.3+ just now but we found the same problem so I will send you the zip backup.
It looks like moodle completes the backup successfully (at least that's what it reports) but the restore is incomplete: the page is "done" even though the script doesn't get as far as reporting success.

Cheers,
Lena
