Enable group memberes only, gradebook categories must be set in a certain way

Enable group memberes only, gradebook categories must be set in a certain way

We are running Moodle 2 and in order to assign a resource (file/folder) to a grouping, I found that by changing the setting in Administration > Development > Experimental > Enable group members only you can choose a grouping when adding a file or a folder. Before changing the setting, grouping option was only available for activities. However, when changing the setting mentioned, there is this message “...gradebook categories must be set up in a certain way to ensure that activities are hidden from non-group members” My question is, in what way exactly do the gradebook categories need to be?

Thanks,
Kris

Hi Kris,

Basically it meas that you need to hide and exclude columns/categories from aggregation per every single student.

e.g. if your Student A is supposed to take and be graded for Assignment 1, but not Assignment 2, then you will need to hide Assignment 2  activity with groupings, and then hide and exclude Assignment 2 column in the gradebook for this particular student.

Hi Elena,

Do you really mean to hide assignment per every single student ? I mean without the use of groups / groupments ?

Thanks.

yes కలగలుపు

Gradebook does not do that automatically. Unless there was some development, I have missed.

Thanks for your answer. Could you please help me to add a feature request in the tracker ?

I'm not able to explain it properly but the idea is to be able to use the Administration > Development > Experimental > Enable group members only feature with activities and gradebook.

I can't imagine excluding an activity from the gradebook for each single student....

Thank you.

Oh, there was quite a number of those discussions already ! చిర్నవ్వు
e.g. take a look at MDL-13868

I belive that MDL-13889 is the quickest solution.
Simple Bulk Exceptions (that we used to have and lost) and Bulk Hiding will work. Please vote ;)

You can also post a note in here, with Radhika, I guess.

Thank you for your answer Elena and sorry for this late reply.

I understand, then the gradebook categories are not relevant as I was only thinking of resources in this context.

The settings text is, however a bit confusing because despite of what it says, „.. access to activities can be restricted to group members..“ the setting really enables you to restrict access to resources (files and folders) to groupings.

As far as I can see you don´t need to activate the setting to restrict access to resources.

Thanks,
Kris
