Configuring Moodle for HTTPS and Adding users manually

Configuring Moodle for HTTPS and Adding users manually

Hello,

I'm terribly sorry if this is in the wrong section please forgive me and redirect if needed.

I previously had an issue where I could not add any courses OR users. The'add/edit' pages  would just return to themselves and not add anything to the database. So I contacted my hosting (TMDHosting) and asked if they were aware of the issue and if it was in installation error (since they installed it for me) They told me that that the whole issue is caused by the HTTPS page request (as opposed to HTTP) and that I have to purchase the SSL certificate or downgrade to Moodle 1.9. I decided that I wanted to get the SSL and stay with 2.0...SO after adding the SSL they told me that I should check out the forums to figure out how to configure Moodle to the new SSL certificate.

I went into Moodle to see how it is behaving now (and figure out how to configure it) and its now letting me add courses but when I go to add a new user manually it will load the "add/edit" page, allow me to enter the info; but when I click "update profile" button the page, it just returns me to the top of the add page and does not add a user.

I contacted the hosting company again. Thinking that it might be an error that they've heard about and/or another issue they may be able to resolve and they told me that:
"This is one of the new features in Moodle 2.0, which we would advise you to report to Moodle's community. There, other users will be able to let you know, what configuration settings you should be using to bypass this setting"

So here I am throwing myself at all of your feet for help sourire

Thank You in advance for ANY and ALL help that you provide!!!!!

Alain,

You need to have SSL certificate enable on your hosting, ask you hosting provider for that. They may have some extra charge for that.

Once its enabled moodle will work smoothly with https.

Cheers,

Jaswant

par John Bonner,

You should check that you have the latest version of Moodle 2.0.2+ and if not request that they update it for you.

There was an issue in earlier versions of Moodle 2 where Moodle called https instead of http on occasions. This happened only on Zeus (and perhaps Litespeed) servers. So using https and an SSL cert should be your choice and not essential for Moodle to work. Don't know if you had the above problem but if so this may help.
