Does Moodle 2.0 have the ability to import 1.9.x courses and their files into the new 2.x correctly? Is there a seperate ultily or conversion that must be done because the two versions are different.

At this point Scott, no, not available. Painful, true, but it is being worked on and hopefully it will be available before v2.2. I expect you are right, there will be a separate utility, one that takes courses from Moodle 1.9.x and part transforms them to the new formats, then I expect another utility to complete the translation, then they will be ready for resotrign to Moodle 2.x, but I am guessing like everyone else at the moment...

Hi Colin/Scott:

Peter Friesen sent me a link to his updated ConversionThingy2 program yesterday.  It can convert .zip backup for 1.9 to MBZ files in 2.0.  I've tried it and it works pretty well (there is some reordering and recreation still necessary).  In the test that I did it was about 90% converted.

Here's a video I made of the conversion process: http://screenr.com/t9z

Cheers,

Joe

Oh my.. thanks Joseph, that it is on the way Cheers..

EDIT: just went and looked at the video and if it is that simple even a dinosaur like me can use it...wow!!! Will get back to it...

FURTHER EDIT: mmm well, that is a bust, it NEEDS too many Microsoft products for it to work properly for me. Disappointing... I cannot even meet the first criteria, Internet Explorer...Why would anyone bother to do such a thing??? How could anyone be so cruel??? Oh the humanity of it all!!!!

As I noted on Joe's site (this refers to "conversionthingy2"):

So, bottom line is that like Moodle 2 itself, this “almost” works….
Great news, indeed!

I don't mean any disrespect to anyone trying to deal with the major holes in Moodle 2..... I am just saying that it is rather more sensible to wait until Moodle 2 is actually production quality software (because we can only hope that such issues would be obviated at that point.....)

sorry about that, I'm on windows7 and use IE for testing of moodle sites and such so I didn't even notice those issues.  Thanks for pointing that out...had I been on my laptop I would have been stuck at step 1.
