Hi Umesh,

Thanks for trying the Sharing Cart. I have designed and maintained it for several years. The URL it refers to is a feature that is not yet implemented except with the Moodle for Language Teaching repository here: http://moodlelang.org

If you are interested in sharing language learning content (ie: English placement tests) through the Sharing Cart block, then this is a good place to go. Right now we are not planning to implement a general course format for anyone to make a repository like this for Moodle 1.9, but if someone wanted to do so, we would be happy to share the code. Right now, our main focus is to upgrade the Sharing Cart and Project Course Format to Moodle 2.0. Our goal is April 1st this year, possibly sooner.

Hello Don - I am relatively new to Moodle and we have just added the Share Cart to our Moodle 1.9.9 site.  I was reviewing the documentation in Moodle.org and I came across the suggestion that in using the Share Cart for Quizzes that we need to create an additional role of Question creator and add all of our faculty to that role.  I have tested the Share cart with the quizzes created in our Physics course and they appear to be copying correctly - but I know appearances can be deceiving.  Do I need to add these role to copy the quizzes?  Also if I do have to add the role I am unclear on setting up the Category for the questions - should all questions be assigned to the site?

Our physics course is creating a very large question bank and weekly quizzes.  The quizzes are being built through out the termand I added the Share Cart in order to share the quiz across the Physics sections.

Thank you so much for your help.  Nancy K Hoke - Khalifa University

Hi Nancy,

Sorry for the late reply, I don't usually visit this forum. In your Sharing Cart question, you do not *have* to add new roles. After using the Sharing Cart with a quiz in 1.9, log in as a student. If you cannot see the media (audio, video, images), then there may be a permissions problem. If you make a Question Viewer role for students or a Question Creator role for teachers, this may solve it.

In 2.2, this is generally not necessary because 2.2 solves the media link problem by embedding the media into each question. However, if you upgraded from 1.9 and created Legacy files expect problems. Moodle Docs and help warn against using Legacy files because it is not fully supported in upgrades and bugfixing. There is a long standing bug in the Moodle 2.x Import function that may affect you. The Sharing Cart using code from the standard Import function so beware. Properly embed the media into your questions in the 2.2 way and you won't have any issues.

Also remember that no user data is included with the Sharing Cart. Therefore, moving glossaries, wikis, and forums may be disappointing because the user data is the reason to move it. We are hoping in Sharing Cart 2.3 this fall, to include an option to move such activities with user data.

Cheers,  Don

Hi Don,

This looks excellent - I'm using Moodle 2.1.x and I put it into the Block directory as seems to be indicated in the instructions - and I can't see it.

Now I know 2.1 has a lot of changes, so I'm wondering what the trick is to get it going on this platform?

Thanks

Robert

Dear Colleagues--Sharing Cart Users,

Sharing Cart 2.2 release 1 is now available, replacing the previous release: Sharing Cart 2.1 beta.

This fixes a bug reported by Alexander Bias who found that after multiple items were copied into the Sharing Cart, only the first item would copy back into a course. Attempts to copy other items would only repeat a copy of the first item. This was due to internal file names not being unique. In addition, we also extend the general warning from Moodle HQ, to avoid using Legacy Files, as the Import/Backup/Restore code (parts of which are included in the Sharing Cart) may not always give expected or reliable results.

This update is available as a download from github.
https://github.com/VERSION2-Inc/Sharing-Cart-2

Please replace your current Sharing Cart immediately, and thank you for your time and trouble testing the beta version.

For your information, we are planning a Sharing Cart 2.3 release for the fall.  Alexander recommended we include an option for the Sharing Cart to copy user data in some cases, such as Glossaries, Wikis, Forums and Databases. If this is useful to you, or if you have other requests, please let me know in the coming months.

With best regards,
