Blogs: Blog ready for more testing

Folks, Moodle Blog is in a rather healthy state at the moment with very few todo items on the short list. If you have tested the blog in the past and would like to see where it stands or if you have been standing on the sidelines just curious now is an excellent time for you to take a look.

Dan is still maintaining the easy install package on his site:
http://learn.lincoln.ac.nz/moodle

The simplest way to get started with testing is to download the package from the link above and install that full package in a test location as you would any secondary test moodle installation. Just be sure to use a different database OR a different table prefix so as not to conflict with any pre-existing moodle installations.

Looking forward to hearing what you manage to break!

Hi Everyone,

I have set up a blog test site for you to see how the blog works in action without having to set one up yourself! - feel free to create your own student accounts - I have set up 2 teacher accounts and 2 student accounts for you to use - details are listed on the homepage of the site.

have fun!

Re: Blog test site

Jacob Romeyn -

I installed the Moodle 1.5 and blog as the zip file. Install went well and I had an entire class test it on my test server.

A couple of observations:

1. The comment window is small and can not be enlarged.

2. Each student has their own page layout, even when the admin disables blocks such as calendars etc.

You can login to the site with ID : student  and password : student

Jacob,
Thank you very much for testing - and allowing students access even!

A couple of answers:

1) You could change the admin setting to not use a comment window which would display them inline on the archive page. I could also be persuaded to put a new request into my todo.txt document. How would you word the request? What is it that you would like the comment window to look like? Would you rather it be a normal window with no sizing restraint? Would you rather its size be customizable in the admin page perhaps? Thanks.

2) By "even when the admin disables blocks such as calendar" do you mean that you have edited the main blog page and removed the calendar block? If so then this is expected behavior as the students are allowed to personalize their pages. Or, do you perhaps mean that you have used the moodle/admin/ page to disable the calendar block completely on your site (by deleting or hiding)?

Re: Blog test site

Jacob Romeyn -

I missed the admin setting for the comments, and I like that better.

I think would like  the ability to resize the comment window.thoughtful

And looking at it closer allowing the student to modify their own page is goodapprove

I noticed that the student can have a private calendar?  Is this a feature of Blog or part of Moodle 1.5?

Re: Blog test site

Daryl Hawes -
I've added an item to my todo.txt file:
* From Jacob Romeyn - add option to allow comments window to be resized (admin option, comments window resizable: YES/NO)
It's not down as a priority - but it's noted.

The private calendar is a function of moodle. Blog does not yet interact with or modify the calendar.
