Windows server: XAMPP -> production conversion

Question for you more experienced folks.

I would like to convert the following configuration to a production site.

  • Moodle 1.8.6 (20080711)
  • Win2K3 (R2) system
  • XAMPP 1.6.3a (Apache 2.2.4, MySQL 5.0.45, Php 5.2.3 +4.4.7 + Pear).

What migration path would make the best sense to move to a production installation and upgrade to Moodle 1.9.9?

Thanks for your suggestions/guidance.

See Moodle migration.

I suggest you separate the two steps: Move you installation to the new server, and verify it is working. Then upgrade to the latest version, and verify that is working.

Thanks Tim. Is it reasonable/safe/sane to assume that if I back up my MySQL db and Moodle data folder that I could then rebuild the server to current release levels and then import to the new system?

Thanks again for your guidance.

Yes, but don't throw away the old XAMPP site until the new one is working sonrisa
