I discover Moodle with the version 2.0 previews and there is a usability question I need to ask.
I guess I'm not the only one to find the audio player very ugly and I would like to know if there are plans to change the way it looks ?
Does anyone know about any other multimedia plugin for audio files ?
Thanks.

Hi "open flips" and Mary,
In Moodle 1.9 and still in 2.0 there are 2 Flash mp3 players. Those are available if the media filters have been enabled at admin level.
In a resource text, when you link text to an mp3 file, the link is "filtered" and automatically displayed as a "small" flash player (2). This is the usual way of doing things and many moodle users have never used or seen the "big one".
If you go to Add Resource / File / and directly select an mp3 file in your course files (or upload it), then that mp3 file is displayed with the "big (ugly)" flash player (1).
I quite agree with the OP that the big player looks rather ugly. In fact both players have a very dated look to them, and it would be good if 2.0 (or 2.1) was the occasion to introduce a better-looking flash player. Personallly my favorite flash player is DewPlayer (see attached screenshot #3), but there are scores of nice-looking players that Moodle could use.

Re: Usability: Does the big audio player has to be so ugly ?
I have hope in Native Audio in the browser coming soon (for non-ie users?) to get rid of flash players.
Would you have any idea of how much effort would it take to replace it with another player ?
I've added the MDL-23644 tracker with hope for a change.

It's also worth noting that IE 9 *will* support native audio playback bringing it in line with the rest of the market. The only issue is codecs.

Thanks for the change.
