Hi Brent,
I guess you are talking about the hub front page search form. You can remove edu field and language field from this search form (it would just return every language and every edu field).

Course code is something like idnumber or shortname? Adding a new search field mean that you need to touch local/hub/lib.php/get_courses(). I don't see too much problem to add more case to this function in your own hub.

Moodle cvs update should only break if we refactor it (which is still quite possible as this function need optimization). But anyway even if this update pb occurs it should not be that hard for you to fix it.
