July 10. I just downloaded the Moodle program as a zip file. I unzipped it and can see all the files. BUT, I CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO ACTUALLY OPEN THE PROGRAM. How do I open the actual program once all the files are there??

I downloaded Moodle 1.9.9+. I am trying to open it and use it on my desktop computer.

I've put a screenshot below of the Moodle package you should have downloaded to experiment with locally on a Windows computer (just checking - there are several other packages and it can be confusing).
Basically it's just like installing a downloaded application (like Firefox for example) it just takes a bit longer - but only about 10 minutes. Unzip the file into a folder you can easily find again
The instructions come inside but are also here : Complete install packages
There's also an install package for Mac - and even easier to install.
I have a step by step tutorial for Windows XP I could send you but it's in French.

I am on a PC with XP. I have attached a screen shot of what I downloaded. I guess I went into this thinking I was downloading a desktop app I could take for a spin. Guess not. This looks like an app I could really use. What do you suggest I do now? --Thanks
Hi Ross - yes, as Glenys says, you need to download the version of Moodle that is specifically for using on your home laptop as opposed to on a server or network - if you go to the Downloads tab up above here and then click Moodle for windows it will take you to the one Glenys was suggesting you use. That one is dead simple because it includes everything you need in one package.
Thanks to all. I'll uninstall the server version I downloaded and try downloading the windows version and see what happens...
