I am testing Moodle 2 but I frequently get:
Serious session error detected.
Please notify administrator, this problem is most probably caused by small value in max_allowed_packet MySQL setting.
I find it strange that MySQL has something to do with it, but well... the setting is :
max_allowed_packet 16777216
Which sounds like plenty enough (16Mb)
This happens for example always when I click 'backup' in a course.

I've got the same problem trying to activate editing mode of courses.
I'm running 2.0 preview 4 HEAD from 19.08.2010.
Looks like somebody also posted the problem in a second thread:

Is this a real bug of the 2.0 version or a settings problem?
