whenever some student adds to e.g. a dusicussion forum, I get many identical emails send to the admin address.
Can anyone reflect on this problem?

I didn't respond because I have no clue. I get two responses to many things because I have admin and teacher accounts. Other than this, it sounds like a configuration problem with the mail server.
This is not anything I have ever seen before.

same here, no clue, but I have also email adresses of my own in more then one account resulting in duplicate e-mails.
I too have noticed this of late. As the system admin I am also getting multiple notices of email delivery failures.

The emails are copies of the same post. All mailed to the same address.Sent to me at interval of a few minutes as I noticed yesterday.

I've raised it with the hosting company (it's a dedicated server, but managed by them), and they can't see anything wrong with the mail settings. They did suggest it was a problem with our company's mail server that receives the emails, but I'm not convinced.
I'd love to have some ideas that I can go back to the hosting company with....

Yhe problem still existst and is very anoying. Especially since I want to get my colleagues interested in using Moodle.
I tend to think that it is a bug, where can I report it??

I can't think of anything in Moodle that would cause this ... it works fine for all the sites I know about.
Have you tried upgrading to 1.4.3? Good idea anyway and who knows may fix this too for you.
If not, please file a bug and include detailed copies of a complete set of diplicate emails, including the full headers. These should help find the source of the duplication.

Can it be that for each course present I get an email. In other words, does the system tyhink that I am a different person for each course where I am responsible?

This multiple email thing still exists. And is geting more and more of a nuisance.
I wrote l\ast time that the emails were sent by intervals of several minutes, I meant that they drop in at my box with an interval. When several people have made forum contributions at short notice, I recieve a mix of emails (each one 12 times, but mingled among the other formu-mails).
Can anyone help me with a direction to look at? I am not able to solve this by myslef I am afraid.

I too have had this problem and it seems to happen when I have two browser window open for the same course and post a message. E.g. open course A to post a message and then open a second browser wind of course A to get a link to some other resource.
Is that what seems to be happen for you?

I getr 12 emails for each forums contribution, assignement grading or anything else; wheteher I made the change myself or one of my students made a contribution..
It is independent of the number of windows open in my browser

I am running additional tests based upon your suggestion to study the full headers. now I noticed that the messages grow inceremently.
probably some thing is bouncing. I still have not found out why it is. maybe it has nothing to do with Moodle. When I sent standard email to m.koops@cals nl though, no multiple mails are received.
I suspect that the server/moodle sendmail is somewhat critical and send a retry too fast....?

Problem seems to be solved.
I apologize for blaming Moodle. It was an error at my providers settings. Some legacy forwarding caused the rpoblem.
I thank all of you for the interest and the suggestions. especially the full-header check helped a lot.
