The link Frank added was one I had forgotten about, and does answer a lot of the problems you are encountering. However, since I set about giving you the code you wanted here's a new css file to add to your theme's folder. Make sure you save it to the same place your gradient.css is in.

Also you will need to add the following to your theme's config.php.

Just add the name of the new css file as written here in bold with all the apostrophes and punctuation!!! this is VERY IMPORTANT. Also DON'T copy and paste it, just type in the words yourself.

$THEME->sheets = array('styles_layout','gradients');
