As I mentioned, take the time to look at the livetex implementation in suse 11 and think about whether you might want to use the those as binaries for the moodle tex filter or even going to asciimathml or mathjax......... Indeed, if your needs are being addressed by mimetex, then you may well find that abandoning the tex filter altogether and using asciimathml is much faster. Indeed, if you use the version Mauno offered for use with jsxgraph you may get excited by the options that offers.
