Quizzes not moving on in Firefox

Quizzes not moving on in Firefox

Good evening Gordon (probably morning by the time you read this),

I am having a problem in Firefox with Quizport quizzes not moving on when they are completed.  They show the score and the "Well done you have completed the exercise." message, then the screen goes blank white and stays that way.  An example of the URL displayed while the quiz hangs is:

wyciwyg://115/http://www.strivney.co.il/mod/quizport/view.php?tab=preview&unumber=-1&quizid=7315&qnumber=-1&columnlistid=conditions&columnlisttype=quiz&sesskey=9YdowLXMyy

Strange huh?  Where does the wyciwyg://115/ come from?surprise

If I then press the browser's back button the next quiz appears.

The same quizzes are moving on no problem in Internet Explorer.

I think it must be something with my quizzes as I checked some Quizports on your server in Firefox and they moved on no problem. To test this I put a set of my quizzes, entitled "Quizzes not moving on in Firefox" on your server but for some reason they don't work atall and come up completely as white pages.  I have had this problem recently with your server.  Yikes!  Not doing very well.clown

These quizzes previously functioned fine in Firefox.  I recently made a change to all of the quizzes where I added an egg-timer type animation to come up when the quiz is finished.  Maybe there is too much data in the var CorrectResponse = string?  The code looks like this:

var CorrectResponse = '<img src="smiley_17.gif" alt="Correct Answer.gif" title="Correct Answer" width="70" height="60"></img>&nbsp;Well done!<img src="waiting.gif" alt=Please wait while next exercise loads..gif" title="Please wait while next exercise loads." width="30" height="30"></img>';

This problem is not isolated to only one type of quiz but is happening with all of my quizzes throughout my site. sad

Would you please be kind enough to have a look on my server at:

http://www.strivney.com/mod/quizport/view.php?tab=preview&unumber=-1&quizid=6906&qnumber=-1&columnlistid=display&columnlisttype=quiz&sesskey=lxDWii22fe

Sorry, I know you are busy at the moment.

Thanks very much in advance.

Hi Deborah,
thank you for reporting this and for trying out the quizzes on my server andincluding links to activities on your server. I have had some similar experiences recently, so I feel there is a logical explanation for wat is going on. I have some time this Fri, Sat, Sun, so I hope to investigate this and the "Previous activity" problem you reported too.

regards
Gordon

Thank you Gordon.

If it is at all possible, could you please then look into a third problem?

The iSpring presentations in Quizport sometimes play twice at the same time, one slightly behind the other, so there is an echo effect. I have only noticed this in Internet Explorer and students using IE have also reported it. This is not a new problem. It does not happen every time. It might be that it happens only the first time a presentation is played in a Quizport, but I am not 100% certain.

Again, I put an example on your server (Presentation playing with Echo), but it doesn't work at all.

An example on my site is:

http://www.strivney.com/mod/quizport/view.php?tab=preview&unumber=-1&quizid=6631&qnumber=-1&columnlistid=conditions&columnlisttype=quiz&sesskey=ASyzIVzWqQ

Hoping it's a simple thing.......

Thanks again.

Deborah

Hi Deborah,
thanks again for setting up A QuizPort on my server. It really speeds up my investigation.

I have found and fixed the cause of the white pages on my server. It was because the "Navigation" setting for those quizzes was set to "Moodle navigation frame". I have fixed that now, and in the process I discovered another problem which I think could also cause the quizzes not to move on.

I am continuing to check through the details of the problems you reported and confirming they seem to be fixed by the latest tweak I have made.

Gordon

Hi Deborah,
I just found out that FindIt(a) and FindIt(b) quizzes do not return results when they have a timer, and I think the same may be true for other Rottmeier formats (i.e. DropDown and JIntro).

I am just investigating that and will report back later on.

Hi Deborah,
I believe the white screens and odd "wyciwyg://115/" page were caused by a problem in QuizPort's javascript settings that resulted in the browser being told to try to send the results back to the using AJAX instead of via a normal form submission.

Please check for yourself that the quizzes you set up on my server no work OK using the browser you have access to. If these quizzes now work well for you on my server, I am confident they will also work well for you on your server when the QuizPort module on your server is next updated.

As i mentioned earlier, the timers on FindIt(a) and (b) are now fixed. I have also confirmed that timers on DropDown work OK, but it appears that the JIntro quizzes you uploaded to my server have no timers in them so I could not test that.

I am now going to have look into the double player issue you reported for IE.

Hi Deborah,
from what I could work out, the iSpring quiz was not working on my server because there was no swf file. When I transferred an swf file across from your server it seemed to work OK for me using IE8.

I would be grateful if anybody reading this could try the quiz on my server and report back on whether or not you experience the echo effect.
best regards
Gordon

Hi Gordon,

No echo in Firefox 3.6.3, nor in Chrome 4.1.249.1045 , but it is there in IE 8.

Later,
Jeff

PS. IE and Chrome do not like your security certificate.

Hi Gordon,

Sorry for the slow reply as I am away at the moment.

Thanks so much for addressing the problems I brought up. I tried out the quizzes I had uploaded to your server and can confirm that they advanced perfectly in Firefox.big grin

Sorry about not uploading the SWF file to your server and thanks for transferring it over. Thanks very much to Glenys and Jeff for confirming the echo problem in Internet Explorer. Gordon I will await your further direction on this issue.

Hi Gordon.

I was wondering if you were able to replicate the double player problem, which Glenys and Jeff also experienced, with the iSpring presentations and if there is a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Deborah,
I'm afraid I haven't been able to replicate the problem on my own computers. I will wander round campus today and try accessing the quizzes from the variety of versions of IE that we have installed here.
