lately i have been trying to post announcements to particular group of student on their front page. But i cannot do that since i did not want to assign system role as student to all students.
for an example.
mr. david is teaching accounting for a particular group of student....for some reason he cannot take the class and wanted to give noticifiation to those accounting students. I tried using notes...but the problem is, student has tocheck out for individual subjects....
so i am thinking, is there any ways to inform students and the notice appears in front page as and when they log in.?

An easy but not very sophisticated way of doing it would be for the teacher to send a message to the class through Moodle and as long as the student has "Automatically show Message window when I get new messages" checked, the message window will pop up when they log in to Moodle.
Like I said not sophisticated or foolproof!

as you mentioned, though it wasnt a fullproof but it serves my purpose to certain extend.
