Moving assignments from one folder to another

I have an instructor who set up a single file assignment and then, after two students had already submitted their assignments, realized it should have been an advanced file assignment. I moved the two submitted assignments to the new folder (using FILES in the Admin block) but the new assignment still says "No assignments submitted."

Is there any way to move assignments and have them show up as being submitted to the new assignment?

The cheap and dirty way is to participants > student >login as, and upload the file.

Also, if you are using Notes in Advanced Uploading, the moment your student opens a note, even if nothing is written, the assignment has submitted status.
