Is anyone using Moodle to manage community-based sites that are not specific to education? While the system is obviously geared toward instructional delivery, I also see a huge benefit to those site interested in community-building and collaborative content development.
On the Collaboration Across Borders project we are setting a staff network for HE tutors to organise collaborative activities between students from different countries, and then hosting those international activities. We are certainly engaged in community-building and collaborative content, and would welcome feedback. You can find us at http://www.cabweb.net or directly to our test moodle portal at http://www.staff.isipartnership.net/moodle/ . We are about to move to a permanent moodle portal and will then be inviting moodlers to join us.
Hi Adam,
There is the beginnings of a Building learning communities forum. While some of the small number of present contributors are involved in education (probably the reason we discovered Moodle in the first place) we are also interested in the capacity of Moodle to support communities. In my case I am interested in using Moodle to support a research community.
And, as was pointed out when I asked the same question a few months ago, this very site is a good example of Moodle supporting the Moodle (development and users) community.
Looking forward to learning with you (a fundamental community activity)
Ivan Webb
