How to install Moodle by the package for Windows

Dear all,
I have downloaded http://download.moodle.org/download.php/windows/MoodleWindowsInstaller-latest-19.zip
Edit file config-dist.php, rename it to config.php
Unzipped it then run Start Moodle.exe
Then run http://localhost/moodle/install.php but I've got 404 ERROR
I also tried http://localhost/install.php but do not successful.
Would you please tell me how to install Moodle by this package smile ?
As I understand, I do not have to install mysql, php or some things else because this package it all-in-one ?

mmm you do not need to edit the config-dist.php file, well, I never have and it has always run for me.

Unpack the file to the C:\Moodle folder. This location is not essential; you can unpack it anywhere, but for the sake of expediency and efficiency in finding the Moodle files you may need later, particularly when installing packages and other themes, it is handy for it to be in a single, easily found location.

The unpacked file holds four elements, a Moodle Start executable file, a Moodle stop executable file, a folder called Server, and a “readme” text file. After unpacking, Apache, PHP and MySQL are already installed and are prepared to be run in the background. Run the Start Moodle.exe file, and a cmd window appears letting you know that Apache and MySQL are running and Moodle is ready to be run. Do not close the cmd window.

Open your browser, and enter into the location bar:

http://localhost/

This should open the “ install.php ” file and you can start to install and configure Moodle.

I need your help,i m using windows Xp OS to install Moodle software.

I Create a Folder in C:\Moodle, where i unzip the package and extract all files to Moodle folder. Now I got 4 files in Moodle folder those are "Start Moodle.exe" ,"Server","Stop Moodle.exe", "README.txt".

Then i click on start Moodle.exe and it launch successfully, thereafter i type http://localhost at browser,i successfully visit to that site, i click next but at 4th step i got following error:

Database creation error. Could not create the given database name with the settings provided

Type

Host Server

Database

User

Password

Tables prefix

after this error ,i m not able to move on next step. I don't know where i did mistake.Plz help me.Thank u

Apparently, I have the same issue and can't really help,just trying to find the solution as well. I'm not the expert and this installation process  is quite confusing for me.

Please, any body let me know how to reach http://localhost. I'm getting error404 all the time on my PC.

I struggled and struggled and eventually gave up installing the Moodle for Windows package on Vista.
Then I installed it in seconds on XP, working perfectly!
Now, I hear, some friends are fighting to install the Moodle for Windows package on Windows 7 and they too are struggling.

The morale of the story seems to be that the Moodle for Windows package installs on XP easily and not on any of the new-fangled Windows.

Any thoughts?

Windows 7 Installation of Moodle

Hi,

I am having trouble trying to install Moodle on a local Windows 7 box. I have successfully installed on Vista and XP previously.

I have downloaded and upacked the source files into a folder on the route of c:Moodle. Ran the 'Start Moodle.exe'. I get to the php checking screen, then it succesfully creates the Moodle data directory, but then when I press 'Next' it just says 'Waiting for localhost...' and freezes....

When I stop and restart the server and then point the browser at http://localhost I get nothing.....

Really frustrating....

Has anoyone else encountered this problem and found a work-aroud for it?

Any help / advise much appreciated...

Failing that, i'm going to partition the disk and install XP and install Moodle their...

You can set up Moodle on Win7 by following the install instructions described in the training video at http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourseN.aspx?lpk2=47547, under the Moodle for teachers hyperlink.

Your current issues setting it up are probably because there are some differences between the normal install steps and the install steps for Win7.
