Links from MS-Word documents do not work properly

Hi All,

I'm in desperate need for a fix to this.  Linking directly to a resource (1.9.3) from MS-Word ends up taking the user to the main page, not to the resource.  The URL works fine when pasted into the browser, but when inserted into Word as a hyperlink it doesn't.  The user still gets the Moodle login screen, but when they log in they get the front page, not the resource being linked.

I've seen this in another thread or two but they don't seem to end in a definitive fix.

Thanks,

Scott

Damn, i'm getting the same problem, with 1.9.2

I've also seen the other threads but they don't seem to end in a definitive fix.

There must be a way to resolve this issue by putting codes into the hyperlink to jump straight to the course???

Can anyone help???

DS

This is definitely frustrating.  I have several people here in the office that have perfectly reproduced the problem.

As a workaround, I created a plain HTML page, and used META REFRESH to redirect the user to the resource's direct URL.  So the link in MS-WORD points to the static HTML non-Moodle page.  The page then redirects the user to the resource, where they log in and then get correctly sent to view the resource.

We also just published to PDF instead of MS-Word and that worked fine.... but we still are in need of a fix.

One solution might be to use a different word processor.

As a curiosity test, I created a document with OpenOffice that had
two links embedded. One link pointed to a deeply-nested page
in a Moodle course that allows guest logins.

The other link was to a deeply-nested page in a Moodle course
that requires a login.

Then (from OpenOffice) I did a "SAVE AS MicrosoftWord 2007 XP"
Then I closed the document and reopenned it.

Both links worked as expected. The guest login link arrived
directly at the deeply nested page. The link to a page
that required a login went to the login page, and then redirected
as wanted. OpenOffice is quite a bit cheaper too. It's free.

Try this...

in /lib folder and in the file weblib.php (add the following in function called qualified me() )

return $CFG->wwwroot . me();

restart your web server and try again.

Best ..

Chris

Please make this clearer.  People will either try to follow it and (probably) get it wrong or, more likely, give up.

I'm working with Moodle 2 and am having this problem but it is between two MS Word documents that are posted inside of the moodle course and they reference each other with links. The user is already logged in and gets taken to the login screen when they click on the link. When they login they get taken to the front page rather that the document that the link references.

I had this same problem linking on our Scheme of Work on MS Word. I wanted to link to a shared resources area on our Moodle site. We had the same problems, but I found a solution that may be appropriate for you.

If you make the course available to guests, the links to files in that course work fine. This may cause issues if you have sensitive material, obviously.

One way to potentially get past this is to make it available to guests, but not available to students. This way students cannot see or access the course. In this instance, you have to be already logged in for the links to work.

I hope that this might help?

Oli

The quick and easy way to resolve the link/word doc problem is to publish/convert the doc as a pdf. The links work fine then.

My documents were going to be pdf anyway.

Hi Andrew

You can simply convert the powerpoint presentation to a pdf too.

Keep in mind that the pdf will be static and the animations (if any) wont work.

I have the same issue from PowerPoint. Is there a simple resolution to this yet?

Picture of Particularly helpful Moodlers

Hi

just over a year on, is this still an issue in later Moodles? For example if I upgrade to a Moodle 2.5 or 2.6 will it be fixed or will the hyperlinks still not work from anywhere but a pdf or browser bar?

Thanks

Heather
