About Moodle Packages for Windows and XAMPPlite

Dear all:

I have recently upgraded my local development environment (Windows-based) from the older xampplite version to xampplite v1.7.0 (the one that came with "Moodle Packages for Windows", see http://download.moodle.org/windows/). The older version has been working great for me for over a year now. After I upgraded to xampplite 1.7.0, I started to experience some random apache crashes on my workstation (running 32-bit Vista Enterprise).

Here is a screenshot of the crash that I'm getting:

"Apache HTTP Server has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..."

Some quick questions:

1. Does anyone also experience this problem with this specific xampplite version (v1.7.0)? If so, any solution to this random crash problem? Here is the my config of the XAMPPlite v 1.7.0:

+ Apache 2..2.11
+ MySQL 5.1.30 (Community Server)
+ PHP 5.2.8
+ XAMPPlite Control Version 2.5 from www.nat32.com
+ XAMPPlite Security 1.0
+ SQLite 2.8.15
+ OpenSSL 0.9.8i
+ phpMyAdmin 3.1.1
+ Webalizer 2.01-10
+ Zend Optimizer 3.3.0
+ eAccelerator 0.9.5.3 for PHP 5.2.7 (comment in php.ini)
+ dbg-php-5.2.dll (from NuSphere), also modified the php.ini for the debugger to work)

By the way I don't have any anti-spyware or anti-virus software running on the background, so that would not have been the cause of the crash.

2. Does moodle HQ has plan to upgrade the "Moodle Packages for Windows" (currently with XAMPPlite v1.7.0) to use the newer version of XAMPPlite v1.7.1?

Thanks! smile

Sure! Doing that right now. It has been addressed in MDLSITE-728, btw. Thanks for pointing to the new version! cool

PS: About current version, 1.7.0, it sounds to me that there were some problems with eAccelerator, causing a lot of problems. In fact I think we disabled it on purpose. Not sure if that is the source of your problems. I'll try to keep it enabled in new version to see how it goes.

Done, only a few changes were necessary. From MDLSITE-728:

Moodle 19_STABLE: http://download.moodle.org/download.php/windows/MoodleWindowsInstaller-latest-19.zip

Moodle HEAD: http://download.moodle.org/download.php/windows/MoodleWindowsInstaller-latest.zip

Using XAMPPLite 1.7.1. Other versions will be built next week (Wednesday).

New build includes:
- Apache 2..2.11
- PHP 5.2.9
- MySQL 5.1.33
- With eAccelerator enabled for testing

Seems to be working ok here under XP (curiously the DOS shell window is auto-closed after startup of apache/mysql). Better IMO. Start Moodle.exe and Stop Moodle.exe continue doing their work perfectly.

PS: Any feedback will be welcome, both here and/or in the Tracker: MDLSITE-728

By the way, just a humble opinion. Eloy do you know who is maintaining this page?

http://download.moodle.org/windows/

I think on this particular page if it can mention about the XAMPPlite version (1.7.1) in tne "Note" area I think that would be great! Thanks!
