Hi all,
I'm just putting together some examples of algebra filter use for the Moodle docs (something us trainers keep being asked for and I thought it would be a good idea to add this to the docs) and I was wondering if there was some sort of syntax manual (or similar) just as there is for mimeTeX (i.e. http://www.forkosh.com/mimetexmanual.html) ? I was wondering what exactly the limitations of the syntax were?
Thanks in advance,
Ian.
Ian,
Sorry I missed this post.... I don't use algebra filter but ran down its history in a tracker item... bottom line is that it is pulled from an old version of webworks perl parser.... I have created a new thread in this forum to see if I can get any algebra filter users to discuss what might be lost if we simply did away with the algebra filter (parsing @ tokens with tex or other filter, such as latexml or asciimathml.) I assume you looked at the filter code itself http://cvs.moodle.org/moodle/filter/algebra/ and at the doc http://docs.moodle.org/en/Algebra_filter... Other than some housekeeping by Tim Hunt this is based on perl and "glue" that is 4-5 years old and I know of no additional info save that available from the webworks archive (which provide very little beyond the code itself, but gives you a broader idea of how the pm is used in webworks.

See discussion at:
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=126522&parent=554632
for info on webworks documentation on its syntax, which arguably is what is still applicable with algebra filter as moodle is using the webworks parser.....

Thanks Marc - I'll have a look into that.
