I've been wanting to connected some java applets to quizzes. Both Physlets and PAD (physics applets for drawing) are made to interact through Java script with the page they are in so it should be possible for them. John Isner used SCORM packaging to get some PAD to work and report to Moodle, but in that case only the score, I would like to be able to report the full answer and preserve the state like with other native Moodle questions. (PADs are not limited to physics, One can draw "vectors" (arrows with labels) on a picture that could show cut lines.)

I don't know if the applets you are using are able to communicate with the page. Not all applets do.

There is a fellow (Spanish I think) that seems to know a lot more about this kind of connecting than I do that has mentioned connecting to CLOZE, but I haven't had a chance to try to understand it. CLOZE can also handle more complicated string analysis if you have installed the regular expression question type.
