Why take two themes into the shower?

Alternatives v4.0b4

Afternoon all. Just a quick one to let you know I have a brand new set of themes out and this time they're all-in-one. So you can have as many styles as you want without duplicating the whole thing, having to change every menubar.php or anything.

Link: Click Here

Requirements

  • Moodle 1.9+ (Tested - other versions untested)
  • Standard Theme

Changes

4.0b4

  • All themes merged into one with javascript style selector
  • Header icons moved to menubar in "facebook app" style
  • A little tidying up around the gubbins like filenames, moving bits in CSS
  • Added 'Spring' and 'White' themes
  • Added javascript control to delay page loading and avoid CSS crash in Opera

4.0b3

  • Minor fiddles and bug fixes for SCORM applications

4.0b2

  • Menu now works with IE6.
  • Menu stays still in IE7, doesn't flit all over the place.
  • IE6 PNG linked as seperate file.

4.0b1

  • Totally new menu system based on the MTV.com navigation menu. It's larger, more clear and more professional.
  • New style for side blocks, forum blocks and general boxes inspired by BBC Online.
  • Default has crisp lines and is more pleasing to the eye.
  • General tidy up of style to give a cleaner, more professional look.

All my themes are 'work in progress' and continually under development. If you like this theme and use it yourself, let me know what types of modifications you make on the Moodle forums or email me, I'd love to see them and maybe pinch some ideas for mine.

Thanks to...

Thanks for the support in the forums, the users and contributors around the world and my good friend Google. Also thanks to everyone at Newbury College for putting up with my constant OCD levels of modifying the theme.

Support Moodle and Open Source Software.

PS. Sorry to all the people who've tried to contact me recently, I've been super busy but I've tried to reply to as many emails as possible. If you sent me an IM via Moodle.org and your email address is set to "no-reply" I'm afraid you won't be getting a reply as my pop-up blocker at work is very strict and makes it a pain in the ass to use. If you want to email me you can via moodle@newbury-college.ac.uk and I'll do my best to get back to you.

Small error with IE7 has now been fixed. I would just increase the beta number but lets be honest it would be up to some huge number by now. but download again if you downloaded yesterday.

Hello Shaun

Fantastic theme but I am having problems with 'Show Advanced' in 4B4.

If I click the 'show advanced' button when editing a resource (or on admin>bulk user action), nothing happens. Both IE7 and firefox. And on different PC's.

Changed to other themes eg college 3.10 or chameleon and the button works fine.

Using Moodle 1.92.

As always, great theme's

Just a quick question, I've made 3 new sub-themes for our VLE, I copied a CSS from your theme-60.css file and renamed it

theme_lfc.css

And added a new header img and background colour, and altered the menubar.php, but when I select it via our Vle menu bar, it does nothing.

Are there any other files that need to be altered to recognise the new theme?

I am having the same problem. I am trying to add a theme and followed the same steps but when I click on it it does not load. Is there an additional step?

Hi John,

Did you ever get an answer to this question?  I don't see it in the post...I am trying to do the same thing.  I barely know what I'm doing, but I have managed to modify the existing theme-60.css file, so I have the images in the right place.  And I can add a theme name to the menu.

Like your question, though, if I copy that css file to a new name, it just sits there.  I've searched high and low for another file that has the theme names in it, so I could add another...any ideas?

Thanks.  And please go easy on me because I am not a developer!  I can search and edit, though smile Penny

I'm having a rather bizarre issue with this theme. I guess it's related to the fixed width issue but am not sure.

The menu bar appears on the left side of the screen (only the menu bar) and then to the right of the menu bar the 'normal' contents of my front page (Main Menu, Courses, and Site Admin blocks). Then further right the center block and finally to the right of that the blocks I have on the right side (calendar etc.).

There is a colored portion in the center of the screen that I think is supposed to house everything but the content is all over the place.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 on a Mac in a XAMPP experimental package.

Hi there!

Beautiful theme - very professional looking and one of my fav's!

I'm having a problem trying to figure out how to change some of the text in the enrollment file; can't figure out where that file is or which one it is.  I'll explain: if a person registers, they're sent to the site to confirm their registration. I then have it so that they click on "Course" and it takes them to the main course description.  Below the description, when you scroll down, it says this:  "Please choose one of the following methods of enrolment." and then this:  "This course requires a payment for entry." and lists the cost and below that is a PayPal button.  Then it says:  "Use the button below to pay and be enrolled within minutes!" and then has a "send payment via paypal" button.

Below all that, it then says "This course requires an 'enrolment key' - a one-time
password that you should have received from teacher." and then it asks for the enrollment key.

I want to change the wording on that page, but I can't figure out which file it's in...can you help me?  For example, instead of it saying "Please choose one of the following methods of enrolment." I want to say "Please choose one of the following methods of Payment."  Then change "This course requires a payment for entry" to "This course requires a payment for entry. You can use the PayPal button below to pay using your Credit Card, Debit Card, or PayPal Account." ....and so forth.  HELP!  wink

I've attached a print screen shot of the page I'm talking about!

Thanks so much - Katrina

Hello Katrina,

I deleted your repost of this same content from a different thread. Please do not do this as it is confusing to those of us who subscribe to the forums and regularly try to help out whenever we can.

This is not a theme issue, but you'll be happy to know it's not difficult to fix.

While logged in as an admin, navigate to Language > Language Editing and click "Edit words or phrases." From the dropdown menu that appears, select "enrol_paypal.php. Edit the text that appears in the text box and save your changes.

Good luck.

Hey Patrick -

Thanks so much for getting back to me. Couldn't figure out if where I'd posted the first request was the right place to post it, hence the double post.  Thanks for deleting the double one for me!

Really appreciate your quick response.  That tip is fantastic and exactly what I was looking for - wonderful!  Should do the trick.

Have a great rest of the week!

Katrina

Hey Patrick -

Maybe you can help me again. On the same issue, I also want to change "This course requires an 'enrolment key' - a one-time password that you should have received from teacher " and that area.  Do you know which file contains that?  Is it in the same area?  Please let me know if you're able...

Thanks again,
Katrina

Now that you know where to search, look through the files. My guess would be as good as yours.

This might be of help though: start searching within moodle.php - that is a core language file and has a lot of items in it. You might find what you're looking for there. Then, move onto the enrollment files as the page your referencing happens to be an enrollment page.

Good luck.

Hey Patrick!

Thanks for the info - I did already look in just about every single one of those files that looked like it would make sense to have that info in there...couldn't find that anywhere, which is why I finally asked if you knew which file I should use!  Just an FYI - I always try to find stuff out first before just jumping on here!  Usually after a couple of hours though, if I can't figure it out, I'll stop wasting time and ask, JUST in case someone else knows!  ;-D

Thanks again - I'll keep looking.

Hey Patrick -

Thanks - the moodle.php file did the trick.  I needed to search for 'enrolment key' instead of 'enrollment key'!

Take care - hopefully it'll all be set now! ;-D

I really like this theme, and I think it looks absolutely amazing. I ran into a problem though with moodle messaging and this theme. When I hope my moodle messaging I have to scroll from right to left in order to see the my contact lists and settings, and when I click to someone's name to send a message their name usually goes off screen. I have been able to track down what I believe to be the problem in header.htm in lines referring to the links for the various themes. Could this be the problem or is it something else?

Hi,

Looking for advice on impementing the IE6 PNG fix. I've seen this advice from a thread about one of the earlier versions:

Hi Jesús,

I had the same problem. The path in the header.html file is incorrect.

I think it's line 18, change:

include($CFG->themedir.'/test/js/ie6png.php');

to

include($CFG->themedir.'/default/js/ie6png.php');

This worked for me!

Ciara

However on my line 18 I have

<?php include("$CFG->javascript"); ?>

Can anyone advise on how to incorporate the fix into the header.html file.

Cheers,

Gary

Can anyone help me change the fixed width Newbury College theme to a variable width theme?

What code would I change/modify, and what would I change it to?

I'm hoping this will sort out issues with the gradebook for teachers, and pop up windows etc

Cheers

Chris

Re: Newbury College Theme Set - change to variable width

by Chris Battisson -

Having a similar issue on Moodle at Leicester College, we are keen to add variable width - our success with uptake of the GradeBook by our tutors could be affected unless we can make it a little more flexible with the GradeBook interface.

On a related note our installation of this most excellent theme is giving some strange results when using the grade book. When a Grade book is viewed and the mouse is hovered over a grade item result, a tool tip should appear with the grade criteria displayed in it. Unfortunately with the Newbury theme there is no tool tip (displays null) and the tooltip contents gets displayed in the actual cell of the grade book instead of within the tool tip box, or worse the grade table cell appears to fill with spaces and scrolls off the screen. When switching back to standardwhite theme - things work as expected.

We are running Moodle 1.9.5

Honestly I'm not moaning - I think it's a great theme, carry on the good work.

Any help anyone?

Chris,

Did you work out how to make the theme variable/dynamic width?

I'm having the exact same issue as you guys..... don't know what to do.

From a student perspective everything is fine.

Cheers
