Beautiful and sophisticated theme

Beautiful and sophisticated theme

Hi,

we are trying to convince a client to use Moodle for a new project. We have almost achieved it.

Moodle should play a LMS role but also a Marketing role. Their only concern is about the final web aspect.

Could some one send me a link to a Moodle server with fancy use of CSS and all design possibilities?

Another idiom: Travelling salesmen always try to get a "foot in the door"

UVCMS Moodle Solutions is one of the Partners already mentioned in http://moodle.com/themes/

Thanks everybody for your answers.

Most of you send me links to Themes, that i really appreciate. However, I was rather looking for a real Moodle server were some fancy theme was used.

Some of newschoollearning themes have a top menu that is somehow disconnected from Moodle. That could be usefull to include the most 'marketing or portal' parts of the content. Does anyone now of a real portal making use of that kind of tool.

All the links to previuos discussons were also usefull.

Ramon,

most registered sites in http://moodle.org/sites/ are "real portals" - usually schools...

Really fancy use of CSS and design possibilities in current moodle are unfortunately a little limited. Some of the reasons are explained in http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=116398

Still you may find beatiful and sophisticated moodle themes, you may find nice layout and fancy features from several free or commercial themes - just check the demonstration sites - for example

http://demo.themza.com/moodle/

http://vle.newbury-college.ac.uk/

http://newschoollearning.com/moodle/

and so on.

Demo sites have often a Theme Switcher or you can change a theme from some menu.

I'll take advantage of this "foot-in-door" moment, I suppose. smile

For a theme that successfully uses a menu bar such as the one I've included in a couple of my themes, check out the Newbury collection:

http://vle.newbury-college.ac.uk/?&theme=default

What they do (and what I do on my on site) is add links to the menu bar as they become important.

I realize that this isn't as good (easy/passive) as something dynamically generated (which I am working on), but it's a good start to creating a rigid navigation structure that your users can rely upon.

Note: Moodle.org now uses a similar navigation menu.

So, I've offered two examples of how the navigation dropdown links have been made useful. Perhaps others can provide more.

Hope this is helpful.

Do you add links to the menu bar through editing a particular file in your template? I noticed too, that Moodle.org uses a similar navigation menu and I'm trying to determine which theme to select that will allow me to have an editible navigation menu.

I like your school site! Very interesting group.

We are proud of our theme at http://moodle.parklane.ac.uk
It's CSS based and disconnected from Moodle and shows you what can be done with a bit of photoshop and a text editor.

Lewis,

it is a really beatiful, flexible and well done theme.

You have used some nice javascripts too, it's not all pure css...

Thank you for sharing this link - have you modified also activities?

Hi Lewis,
I've just visited your site's front page and I agree with the other moodlers here that yours is a cool theme. I also liked the Moodle Induction Video for Students except for the background music, which I find disturbing. Why is it that people making videos feel that a background music is an obligatory component? To me it is more "audio pollution" similar to the music that is forced upon my ears when I visit my local supermarket.sad

I know we are listed there but I was just making it easier for Ramon to see our (free) theme in action. I hope this does not break any of the forum rules.

No - you did not break any forum rules, Darko. Forgive me if my comment was tactless, it was just a spontaneous reaction when you added your link 3 minutes after my post that had a link to theme page of moodle.com http://moodle.com/themes/ that has links to all Moodle Partners selling commercial themes or services among some free themes and I thought we have finally found a faster salesman than Ramon (he usually offers Wiris if somebody is asking about Dragmath wink )

In fact all good salesmen need to be in the right place at the right time smile

http://docs.moodle.org/en/Policy_on_Advertising tells that all participants are welcome to write about and link to commercial products or services (Moodle-related or not, yours or otherwise) if it's in the natural context of a discussion such as an answer to a question. This is not seen as advertising.

Your free theme Foodle looks nice - theme itself is a traditional moodle theme but it has some fresh features like those icons...

I would just like to add that there is nothing objective about any of the following terms:

  • beautiful
  • sophisticated
  • fancy

For this reason, you will never find what you are looking for. We all think our themes are the most beautiful, sophisticated, and fancy. That is why we made them!

Perhaps a better way of phrasing this post would be to give an example of sites or aspects of design that you find fit this pattern, then ask if any Moodle themes match your required specifications.

Graphically, this site does look good. I'd like to point out, though, that the use of the login menu in the header is a CSS hack that is breaking the right-column layout in Safari (and perhaps other browsers as well.
